Aprons

 FIRE-RESISTANT JEWELER’S APRON
This apron is our original design, created especially for the working jeweler. The cotton material is permanently treated with a fire-resistant chemical. The apron is very breathable, and comfortable to wear all day. The top of the apron is wider than most, offering good protection for the neck and chest. The neck strap is easily adjustable with a plastic push-button adjuster. The apron is 36 in. long, so it protects your legs when sitting, and has a flap at the bottom of the apron to catch small dropped items and scraps. It has 2 pockets, one at the top which holds 2 pens, and a larger pocket on the lower right. The tie is long enough to tie in the front, so you won’t have to sit against the tied ends. A very durable and practical way to protect your clothes.

Cutting and Filing Tools

 6 ¼ inch Cut 00 Needle files
One of the big reasons we got into this business was the difficulty in finding the right files to carve wax models. After a lengthy search, we finally found them. These are high quality German-made files, in a “double-ought” cut, perfect for carving precision wax models. They won’t load with wax, but leave a smooth surface on the wax. The handles are coated in black plastic for a comfortable feel. These are professional quality files. Sold in a set of 4. Cut 00

--- 6 ¼” Warding file w/ 1 safe edge (flat file with a taper)
-- 6 ¼” Half-round file
--- 6 ¼” Round (“rat-tail”) file
-- 6 ¼” 3-Square( triangular) file

Item #: FN-604-00

Price: $26.00

8 inch Cut 00 Needle files
It is difficult to find a quality German-made file this size in a cut 00 ! This is a hard to find and wonderful size file for carving wax models. Like the smaller 6 ¼ inch files, these are precision-made, cut wax well, won’t load, but leave a smooth surface. Black plastic coated handles provide more comfort while filing. Sold in a set of 4.

---8 “ Warding file with one safe edge (flat file with taper)
-- 8 “ Half-round file
---8” 3-Square (triangular) file
---8” Square file

Item #: FN-804-00

Price: $33.00

4 Piece 4 inch needle file set Cut 0
As far as miniature files go, these are the “Crown Jewels”. These are high quality 4 inch needle files, the smallest cut 0 wax files we know of. These will seem “pricy” for files this small, but they are well worth the price, if you need very tiny files for wax carving

Item #: FN-404-01

Price: $33.00

“THE MONSTER” 10 inch ½ Round File Rough Cut
This is a great big, wide rough-out file with a comfortable rubber handle. When you start your wax carving, and need to knock off a lot of wax quickly, this is the bad boy for you. It won’t load with wax, and leaves a surprisingly smooth surface.

Wax Carving Tip 5
FILING FLAT SURFACES
Try to use the largest flat file you can, and make long straight strokes on the wax, covering as much as the surface as you can with each stroke. Lift the file off the wax after each forward stroke (the file cuts on the “push” stroke), and observe where the file has just cut. Hold the wax you are working on in your hand, not on a hard surface, and you will “feel” the file sliding across the wax surface, creating a flat surface.

Item #: FH-210-00

Price: $17.00    On Sale for $12.00

6 inch Flat (Pillar) File Rough Cut
A quality-made straight, flat hand file with a comfortable rubber handle. The cut is coarse, for rough-out work on hard wax models. It won’t load with wax, and files quickly, leaving a relatively smooth finish. A fast way to remove large amounts of wax before using needle files and gravers for detail work. This is a good file for making large flat surfaces, too. Includes one “safe” edge for filing steps on a wax model.

Item #: FH-106-00

Price: $9.00    On Sale for $6.00

 File Cleaner Combination
This well-made file cleaner has both a wire brush and a bristle brush, for cleaning files of wax, etc. Files cut better, faster when they’re clean.

Item #: FC-100-01

Price: $11.00    On Sale for $8.00

12 Piece Wax Bur Set (small sizes) in Wooden Stand
This is a well-priced set of assorted burs with wide flutes which won’t load with wax. Made of tungsten-vanadium steel with a 3/32” shank, they work great in carving wax, plastics, or wood. Indispensable for hollowing out wax models. The wood stand makes a great way to hold and organize these important wax-carving tools.

Wax Carving Tip 4
HOLLOWING OUT WITH A BUR
When working with a wax bur to remove wax, you will want to use a lower, rather than faster speed with the rotary tool. Too fast a speed will melt the wax onto the bur from the friction. When burring the wax, make sure you keep the bur spinning while in contact with the wax. If you let it slow down or stop in the wax while working, the bur will “walk” out of your control and can damage the surrounding areas.

Item #: BU-512-01

Price: $20.00

 Adjustable Jewelers Saw Frame
This is an inexpensive, yet well-made saw frame with a 3 inch throat depth and a wooden handle. Any size saw blade can be fitted into this frame, and the throat depth is adequate for most wax projects.
*** Try our #8 sawblades, listed below, (SB-512-08) with this frame.

Item #: SF-100-03

Price: $11.00

 Saw blades for Wax Carving
These saw blades made by Hercules are known in the jewelry trade for their high quality and are very hard to find. Hercules #10 blades are perfect for cutting hard waxes accurately without loading. Unlike saw blades used for metalsmithing, saw blades for wax need to be coarse enough to cut fast and not load with wax. Spiral blades, sold for sawing hard waxes, are not easy to control, so you’ll like these #10 jeweler’s saw blades.

Item #: SB-612-10

Price: $3.00

6 piece Wax File set with wooden handles 4” cut 0
We’ve found a very nice set of assorted shape files with wooden handles, which come in a tin box. These are well made, and a good intermediary shape for most wax carving work. They’re priced well, too.

Item #: FN-304-12

Price: $26.00

3 inch Dividers with adjustable tips
These German-made dividers have very sharp, adjustable, removable tips, and a quick adjustment nut for fast measurements. A heavy-duty spring in an extra-hard tool steel body means long life, and minimal deflection. An important tool for marking, measuring, and center-finding. These dividers are of great quality, at a very fair price. We have yet to find a better pair at this price.
br>
Wax Carving Tip 3
USING DIVIDERS TO FIND THE CENTER
If you are trying to find the exact center of a model, open the dividers to estimate the ½ way point, then measure from both sides, making a small mark in the center. If you miss the exact center, just re-adjust the dividers to “split the difference” between the two marks, and try again from both sides, until the dividers hit the same spot from either side. You’ve just found the exact center, quickly and easily, without measuring.

Item #: DI-100-03

 Combination Bench Pin and Anvil
This tool makes it much easier to do jewelry work on a table or bench top. For sawing and filing, and carving, this wooden bench pin provides a necessary extension off your work table or bench, for a more effective work surface. This model is very heavy and sturdy, incorporating a flat anvil as well as a wooden bench pin, and can be clamped onto any flat work surface up to 2 in. thick. There are cheaper models, which aren’t this sturdy, and there are permanent models, which won’t allow you to remove it easily. If you work in a studio where you need to remove the bench pin when you’re not working, our combination bench pin and anvil is the best choice.

Wax Pens

 Electric Wax Pen
An electrically-heated wax pen is an indispensable tool for making repairs or adding wax to a wax model, joining parts, or attaching sprues for casting. Typically, these pens come in many styles, from inexpensive battery-operated models with one heat setting (hot!) to digital models costing over $ 350.
In our simple but sturdy model, you get a heat control box which can be turned on and off, set to full power, or switched to a dial for a full range of temperature settings. The wax pen itself is a heavy duty model which will not transfer heat to your hand, even at its hottest setting. It comes with 7 assorted tips which screw into the insulated handle. A tip rest is also included to set the pen on while it is hot.
The most inexpensive heat-adjustable wax pen we’ve seen on the market is over $125, but we’re selling ours for just $65, almost 1/2 price. This is a simple but reliable workhorse.
